Celebrating 174th Anniversary of 2BC and 174 Years of Service

Celebration of our 174th Anniversary
Strengthening Our Serve

You may have heard it said here that missions is in the DNA of Second Baptist Church.  I have certainly found that to be true.  Second Baptist Church was founded because other Baptist churches 174 years ago weren’t mission minded enough, if it all. We will celebrate that heritage as we celebrate our anniversary this year with a special mission project involving the whole church. As we celebrate, we will Look Back and Thank God; Look Forward and Trust God and Look Around and Serve God.

Look Back and Thank God…

What a better way to honor those who believed in a church that would tell the good news outside the walls by speaking and living it.  The children recently placed posters around the church thanking those who volunteer.  One of the posters used a saying from St. Francis of Assisi, “The deeds you do may be the only sermon some persons will hear today” which is at the heart of serving.  This church gets that.

Look Forward and Trust God…

We continue to form partnerships with mission and ministry groups that are passionate about serving marginalized people beginning in Liberty.  Forming these relationships means we believe in the dream of God and that we can accomplish more in collaboration in the days ahead.  We anticipate the days ahead for Second Baptist Church and want to continue to impact the Liberty community in positive ways.

Look Around and Serve God…

Service is worship.  The weekend of our 174th Anniversary celebration will give us the opportunity to worship by serving others in Liberty and beyond as a community of Faith.  May 6 is the Team World Vision Global 6K for clean water and Sunday, May 7 we will arrange our worship that day around a different schedule giving everyone an opportunity to serve.  Families will have a chance to teach their children about taking the time to think of others.  Just as corporate worship allows us to offer worship together, we will experience the same as people of all ages serve together.

The schedule is:

Saturday, May 6…Global 6K for Clean Water at 9:00 a.m. at English Landing Park in Parkville, MO.  Walk it, run it, you will even see people pushing strollers.  Families will participate.  Seasoned runners and casual walkers will cover the average distance that people in the world have to travel to find the cleanest water which still may not be safe enough.  People 16 and older pay the $50 entry fee, those 15 and under pay $25 and those riding in strollers are free. (I know what you’re thinking, don’t try it, strollers are expensive.)  There is no fund raising just the $50 entry fee will provide safe, clean drinking water for one person for life.  Your race bib will also give you a person to pray for as you participate.  We can have at least 50 2BC people and their friends participate. Register to run or walk in this race here.
