COMPASSIONATE CARE
ABOUT THE TEAM . . .
COMPASSIONATE CARE deacons are guided by Romans 12:10:
"Love each other as brothers and sisters and honor others more than you
do yourself."
Deacons who form the Compassionate Care team assist
individuals or family units in Second Baptist Church who still wish to
be assigned a specific deacon. This personal, one-on-one ministry is
based on a relationship nurtured over time. Compassionate Care deacons
pray regularly for those to whom they minister. Compassionate Care
deacons pay attention to all life events of those whom they serve,
including both needs and celebrations. Contacts initiated by the
deacons are intentional and frequent. When appropriate and needed, the
Compassionate Care deacon will contact other deacon teams such as the
Encouragement or the Helper Team to assist in meeting specific needs,
thus broadening the base of deacon service to these individuals and
families.
Our church is one body, and if one of us suffers we do
what we can to ease the suffering. If a person is in the hospital or
care facility, we offer support through personal visits and provide
comfort by listening, praying and offering assistance. The same applies
to a person confined to the home. We want to enrich that person’s life
while maintaining respect for the individual’s wishes. This support may
include providing transportation, food and companionship. Pray for us
as we seek to be the presence of God among those in our church body who
suffer.
