Rejoice in the Lord as the bride takes her place
When the divorce papers abase
Rejoice in the Lord when the new home is bought
When the storm leaves the foundation for naught
Rejoice in the Lord when the newborn cries loud
When the nursery’s empty, a silent shroud
Rejoice in the Lord welcoming a new sister-in-law
When burying your brother is still very raw
Rejoice in the Lord when the scans say the cancer is cleared
When the relapse report confirms what was feared
Rejoice in the Lord at the family reunion and memories to share
When Alzheimer’s robs the twinkle and creates the blank stare
Rejoice in the Lord with the caffeine, the sunrise, the new
When the darkness has swallowed your view
Rejoice in the Lord throughout all of life’s journey
Say it again for the people in the back
Rejoice in the Lord not because life is easy
