  • 24 oz honey bear or jar: $25

  • 48 oz. jar: $35

Community Ministery Groups

We're excited to launch our new Community Ministry Groups this fall. For those of you who attended the Imagine: Next Retreat, you may recall that we divided into multiple groups on Saturday, based on areas of interest. Most of these groups will become a Community Ministry Group. The purpose of the groups is to make 2BC more inclusive and welcoming for all people.

What: Community Ministry Groups

Who: Everyone at 2BC is welcome to join a group. A 2BC member will lead each group.

When: Sign-ups will happen in person at the September 14 Ministry Fair in the Social Room and after worship. The groups request a one-year commitment with monthly meetings.

Where: Groups will decide on a meeting location. The work the groups do will occur throughout our church and community.

Here's a list of the groups:

  • Education Level

  • Ethnicity & Race

  • Financial Means

  • Gender

  • LGBTQ+

  • National Origin

  • Neurodiversity/Range of Abilities

  • Political Perspective

For more information, contact Rachel Mumaw-Schweser by email or call the church office.

Trunk or Treat

It's October, and that means Trunk or Treat will be here soon! Mark your calendars for this year's event on Friday, October 31, from 5-7 p.m. in our Lightburne parking lot.

Hundreds of kids and their parents come to Trunk or Treat each year, most of whom don't attend Second. We need lots of help to make Trunk or Treat a success! There are two ways you can help:

1. Donate candy. You can drop off individually wrapped candy (any variety; it doesn't have to be peanut-free) in the red wagon in the Welcome Center.

2. Sit with your vehicle and pass out candy during the event. Email Angie Fuller at afuller@2bcliberty.org to sign up to pass out candy.

Thank you for your help! We can't do Trunk or Treat without you!

Celebrate the Season Rehearsals Begin

Rehearsals are set to begin on September 10 for our annual Celebrate the Season Christmas Concert. This year's concert will take place on Saturday, December 13, at 3:00 p.m. in the sanctuary.

We are especially excited about the concert this year because Mark Hayes is our guest conductor. He is an award-winning composer, arranger, and conductor known for his contributions to choral, piano, and orchestral music.

If you don't have time to be in the choir year-round but enjoy singing, this is a great opportunity to join the choir for a few months. You are welcome to join us! We rehearse weekly on Wednesdays from 7 to 7:45 p.m., and the first Christmas rehearsal is September 10. Contact Chip Handrich at chandrich@2bcliberty.org with questions.

  • We need parents, teens, and other adults to take turns helping in this room. No musical skills are required - just extra eyes and hands in the room for safety and efficiency. (And helpers are welcome to join in the fun!) If you would serve for a couple different weeks this semester as a room helper in this choir, sign up here. (Thank you!)

  • If you have a creative idea (with ANY kind of art) that you'd like to lead for a session or two, let Angie know!

Both choirs meet from 9:30-10:00 a.m. each Sunday - beginning September 7. Drop off your kid(s) at 9:30 and then go down to the Welcome Center to grab coffee and chat with fellow parents before you head to Bible study!

Celebrating the Retirement and Ministry of Connie McNeill

Help Us Celebrate Connie's Retirement

Please join us for an evening of hors d'oeuvres & conversation celebrating Connie McNeill on August 23 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. We'll have a short program at 5:00 that you don't want to miss. Connie is retiring at the end of August from her more than 40-year career in ministry, including many years right here at Second Baptist. Everyone is invited to join us in honoring her and wishing her well.

We will all celebrate Connie's ministry together through worship at 11:00 on Sunday, August 24, and we’re excited that Connie's longtime friend, Rev. Dr. Daniel Vestal, will be here to preach. He is the Distinguished University Professor of Baptist Leadership at Mercer University and director of the Eula Mae and John Baugh Center for Baptist Leadership. From 1996 to 2012, he served as the executive coordinator of the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship. (We’ll have one service only on August 24 at 11:00.)

We’re also gathering notecards from the congregation to present to Connie at the August 23 reception. Blank notecards and a basket to hold them are located on the Welcome Center desk. Let’s send Connie into retirement with lots of well-wishes!

Second Wednesday's Summer Social

Have you been to a Summer Social yet? If not, you're missing out! Our next one is scheduled for August 13, from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. in the Social Room. We're having a Summer Harvest Party and we need your help.

Do you have an abundance of lettuce, tomato, or other summer crops? We'd love to share them with you at the Summer Social! Please bring a head of washed lettuce, sliced tomato, or your favorite summer side dish that feeds at least 10 people. Sign up here if you can bring food.

You can start dropping off the food on Sunday, August 10 - just put the food in the fridge labeled as "Summer Social." If you sign up and donate food, then your meal is free! Everyone else will still be $5 at the door, or a $20 per family fee to cover the cost of the rest of the fixings for BLTs and dessert. Please let Rachel or Melissa know if you have any questions, and thank you for your help!
