Rehearsals are set to begin on September 10 for our annual Celebrate the Season Christmas Concert. This year's concert will take place on Saturday, December 13, at 3:00 p.m. in the sanctuary.

We are especially excited about the concert this year because Mark Hayes is our guest conductor. He is an award-winning composer, arranger, and conductor known for his contributions to choral, piano, and orchestral music.

If you don't have time to be in the choir year-round but enjoy singing, this is a great opportunity to join the choir for a few months. You are welcome to join us! We are excited that our next Pastoral Resident, Jana Atkinson-Morga, will be here soon. We're gathering gift cards from Liberty and Kansas City restaurants and grocery stores as a welcome gift. You can drop off gift cards in the basket at the Welcome Center desk now until September 7.

Jana's first Sunday will be September 7, and her first day in the office is September 2. Mark your calendars for a welcome reception for Jana and Dave on September 7! More details coming soon.

• We need parents, teens, and other adults to take turns helping in this room. No musical skills are required - just extra eyes and hands in the room for safety and efficiency. • If you have a creative idea (with ANY kind of art) that you'd like to lead for a session or two, let Angie know!

Both choirs meet from 9:30-10:00 a.m. each Sunday - beginning September 7. Drop off your kid(s) at 9:30 and then go down to the Welcome Center to grab coffee and chat with fellow parents before you head to Bible study!

This month’s Food Share list and Schumacher Snack Pack donation information are available here. Food Share Sunday is held on the first Sunday of every month. Please leave your donations in the red wagons located in the Welcome Center. The wagons will be available the week before Food Share Sunday. Donations supply the In As Much food pantry and the Schumacher after-school snack packs.

Drop off donations to be used for Lillian Shumacher Elementary School’s snack packs on the first Sunday of the month in the red wagons at the Kansas Street entrance.

This months items are fruit cups, canned soup, and canned pasta.

It's time for the Men’s Breakfast to begin again for 2025-26. We meet on the first Saturday morning of the month in the Social Room and occasionally at area restaurants. All men are invited.

The Sanctuary Handbell Choir will begin weekly rehearsals on Wednesday, September 3, from 6:00-6:50 p.m., in the Choir Room.

If you are interested in joining or being a substitute ringer, please contact Christie White at Christie64068@yahoo.com or through the phone number listed in the HUB. Previous musical or ringing experience is helpful for this ensemble.

 If you are interested in a more beginning or intermediate level, Grade 4 through adult, contact Christie about that, too.

 We will have a table at the Ministry Fair on Sunday, September 14, and will be happy to answer any questions. We hope to see you there!

All women are invited to our monthly Women on Mission meetings on the second Tuesday of the month at 10 a.m. in the Assembly room. Our speaker in September is Judy Miller, who will share her experiences from a recent trip to South Africa with Thrive Ministries.

Senior Adults gather for Coffee and Conversation on the first and third Mondays of each month. The first Monday is at 10:00 a.m., and the third Monday is at 1:00 p.m. Please bring your mug and plan to enjoy a time of fellowship.

The Church office will be closed on Labor Day, September 1, 2025. If you need to reach the pastor on call during that time, call the office and follow the prompts. The Senior Adult Coffee and Conversation will meet at Clara Howerton’s home.

Everyone is invited to the ordination service for Pastoral Resident Rachel Mumaw-Schweser on Sunday, August 31, at 3 p.m. in the sanctuary. We'll have a reception after the service in the Assembly Room to congratulate Rachel. We hope you can join us for this special service!

Help Us Celebrate Connie's Retirement

Please join us for an evening of hors d'oeuvres & conversation celebrating Connie McNeill on August 23 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. We'll have a short program at 5:00 that you don't want to miss. Connie is retiring at the end of August from her more than 40-year career in ministry, including many years right here at Second Baptist. Everyone is invited to join us in honoring her and wishing her well.

We will all celebrate Connie's ministry together through worship at 11:00 on Sunday, August 24, and we’re excited that Connie's longtime friend, Rev. Dr. Daniel Vestal, will be here to preach. He is the Distinguished University Professor of Baptist Leadership at Mercer University and director of the Eula Mae and John Baugh Center for Baptist Leadership. From 1996 to 2012, he served as the executive coordinator of the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship. (We’ll have one service only on August 24 at 11:00.)

We’re also gathering notecards from the congregation to present to Connie at the August 23 reception. Blank notecards and a basket to hold them are located on the Welcome Center desk. Let’s send Connie into retirement with lots of well-wishes!

Plan to join us on Sunday, August 17, to celebrate Pastoral Resident Alena Vaughn. During the 9:00 and 11:00 services, we’ll commission Alena from her Pastoral Residency to her new role as Associate Pastor of Administration and Missions. Have you been to a Summer Social yet? If not, you're missing out! Our next one is scheduled for August 13, from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. in the Social Room. We're having a Summer Harvest Party and we need your help.

 Do you have an abundance of lettuce, tomato, or other summer crops? We'd love to share them with you at the Summer Social! Please bring a head of washed lettuce, sliced tomato, or your favorite summer side dish that feeds at least 10 people. Sign up here if you can bring food.

You can start dropping off the food on Sunday, August 10 - just put the food in the fridge labeled as "Summer Social." If you sign up and donate food, then your meal is free! Everyone else will still be $5 at the door, or a $20 per family fee to cover the cost of the rest of the fixings for BLTs and dessert.
