Sing a New Song by Gwen Phillips

Psalm 96

O sing to the Lord a new song; sing to the Lord, all the earth! (Psalm 96:1)

I just love music. It makes me smile, it soothes my soul, it calms my nerves, it makes me dance! From Andrea Bocelli singing "The Prayer" with Celine Dion to Sweet Baby James strumming his guitar and singing "You've Got a Friend"...music is a gift that I cherish.

When I was six years old, a friend had her birthday party on the Cousin Tooney show and I was invited to attend. There were several children there and the host went around with a microphone and asked our names and anything we'd like to say to the folks out in TV land. I said my name was Gwen and I'd like to sing a song. I sang all 4 verses of "Love is the Theme,” unaccompanied. I just love music.

Reading Psalm 96 makes me want to be a part of a large crowd of people, like a mass choir or a flash mob. We could all come together and, just as the psalmist suggests, Praise the Lord, all people on earth; praise the Lord's glorious name!

The Lord is great and deserves our greatest praise. The Contemporary English Version says to sing a new song to the Lord! Everyone on this earth; sing praises to the Lord.

During this holy season, may we find opportunities to sing a new song to the Lord. And may we share that new song with those around us and ask them to join in!
